How to create an ABA file from Microsoft Excel 365

Create a new Microsoft Excel 365 sheet (you may need an Office 365 account) and enter in columns for BSB, Account Number, Account Name, Amount and optionally a description for each row.

Ensure columns are formatted as text

Ensure all columns are formatted as text. Microsoft Excel by default will convert numbers to the “Number format” which will remove any trailing zeros from BSBs and Account Numbers and will cause conversion issues.

Select the Home tab then highlight all the columns then under the format drop-down, select text

Double check all your BSBs and account numers are correct.

You can “Paste Special” into your Microsoft Excel sheet to remove any formatting from other applications by seleting the Home tab, then selecting the paste dropdown and then Values only

Microsoft Excel Paste Values Only

Export to CSV

Once you’ve confirmed all your BSB and account numbers are correct, you can export the sheet to a CSV file by selecting File > Export > Download this sheet as CSV (.csv)
